How strange. I have no cover on my reef tank and my eel has gone nowhere, not even down the overflow tube. I have done my reading, but I guess I should be prepared to find my eel dead soon.

Out of interest, how soon is "soon"?

The lady at my local fish store said that the sand sifting gobies are less prone to jump.

Was referring to the octopus matter.

Similarly my tank is partially covered, but the rock reaches nearly to the top on the left side and there is an enormous space perfect for escape, yet apparently my eels have not felt the urge.

I dont know much about eels, I've read that their tanks should be covered but I wouldnt really know. I shouldve been more clear in my "A), B)" schpiel that I was talking about octopodes. I only brought up eels because I have read (through small research while considering purchasing a snow flake) that a cover is required for their safety. Also I have seen how some eels will thrash around the top of the tank while feeding or spooked.

Don't get me wrong, telling someone to cover the tank is good advice, I think Andy was just pointing out that it's not as critical as it would appear.

and I was just pointing out that I shouldve been more clear as to the fact that I dont know the first thing about eels.

I asked a worker at my local fish store, and he said a Yellow Watchmans Goby would not eat a Cleaner Shrimp, and he also said it wouldn't jump out of the tank as much as other gobies would.
