Will the Diamond Goby try to jump out of my tank? I searched all over, and got mixed answers.

All fish can jump. Cover your tank and your fine..

Didnt mean that in a mean way, just saying there's no real way to tell what a fish's future holds. I dont think any gobies are more or less prone to carpet surfing but hopefully someone will prove me wrong so you'll get a more satisfying answer.

My pinkbar goby jumped even though the water level in the tank was 4 inches below the rim. The only other fish was a firefish. The goby had never even came out in the open.

Odd, my pinkbar gobies that I had a long time ago also jumped. I found one at the top of the stairs... maybe the cat had something to do with that.

It seems like most fish jump out of fear rather than curiosity. Except I've always heard that most wrasse's are prone to jumping? True?

Well I only had two fish and I'm pretty sure the goby, wasn't scared of a firefish that was smaller than it.

Wrasses, gobies, blennies, firefish, hawkfish, jawfish, and dartfish are all notorious for jumping. I have heard cases of other fish like tangs and triggers jumping as well. Also, eels and octopuses are great escape artists.

The reasons for jumping fish are numerous and complex. Changing water conditions, predator avoidance, and an effort to find new territory are amoung the reasons.

eels and octopii yeah, octopii arent so much a problem...
A ) If you own one, you have a secured lid, otherwise you havnt done your reading and it will probably be dead soon anyways.
B ) They can live outside of water for a lot longer than a fish if an accident does occur.

I wondered about eels until I saw some of them feed. Holy crap look out :)
