A few years ago a very kind person on these forums showed me the calculations for diluting and using gluteraldehyde, and they also showed me where to get it. I bought some, and it was about £18 for a large container from a medical supplies place.

This was taken to the dump when I moved house 2 years ago, as I had to shut down all my tanks for a couple of years.

I have tried to find the link and the post but I cant.

Does anyone use gluteraldehyde instead of Excel, and do you have the dilution calculations and the source of purchasing it. I know people will say its nasty stuff, but I stored and handled it carefully before.

Nasty stuff is putting it mild. This should not be added to a tank with fish. I know people do, but I can assure you this chemical (and the "Excel" and "API CO2 Booster" which is the same chemical) does impact fish. The fact that gluteraldehyde kills some plants, kills bacteria, and will kill fish should tell us how dangerous it is, regardless of the dose.

I agree with Byron, the stuff is rubbish and thats where it belongs.
