I went to my lfs today and i saw a tank of glowfish. I am pretty sure they are pink colored danios. I am not an expert on danios but i was thinking of picking up a couple. They were really gorgeous. Can some1 give me any info on them? I belive they glow ... but that is not why i like them ... itz because of the way the shoal, and ofcourse their unbielable color. Do u recommend some for a 30 gallon with tetras, 1 guppy, and 2 german blue rams?

They are geneticaly modified zebra danios. Before anyone suggests this is cruel - it isn't. It doesn't harm the fish in any way (not like dying). They simply inserted a gene that causes the fish to 'glow' into their DNA. The only danger from GM aquarium fish is that they'll accidentaly end up in the wild. As things stand, you have little control over this anyway - though I do hate how they've managed to turn this into a marketing thing :p They would do fine in your tank but make sure you get at least 5 in total (they need not all be GloFish - ordinary zebras, leopards, any of the color morphs of these or even pearl danios would do).

i have heard about this too.
although some people force feed the fishes glowing sticks or even dye them :/
not sure if these glowing danios could be dyed or not.

I'm sorry? Force feeding fish glowing sticks? Come again? :p

Dying I have heard of. Feeding fish color-enhancing food I've also heard of (this actualy isn't cruel - some of the substances are carcinogenic but this is hardly a danger for a fish with a 2 year lifespan and do consider that most of the stuff we eat - almost everything in fact - contains at least 1 known carcinogen). But glowing sticks?

yes glowing sticks to make them look 'nice'
edit: well they are actualy floresent tubes and not sticks but....

Realy? I've never heard of that - do you have pictures or could you tell me which kinds of fish they do this with?

Well i "might" purchase these. Would 7 danios and 7 neon tetras work in a 30 gal? I might not go with glofish, but maybe another colorful danio. Any suggestions?

Glowsticks? Um... no. Florescent dye I might believe, but I'm pretty sure no one is force feeding any fish florescent tubes . I mean come on, they'd stop glowing after a few days anyway, most of the fish would be back to normal before they ever left the shop... or even got to the shop!

7 danios and 7 neons should work, yes. For danio suggestions - I'd go for your typical zebra but hikari are nice as well. Actualy, check out the fish index. There are quite a few profiles. If you look at The Wolf's website as well...
