I have been looking for glosso for ages now and none of the LFSs anywhere near here have it. I even tried calling LFSs 2 hours away but they had none either. So the other day I found some that some guy has on Ebay...stayed up till midnight last night and won the auction WOOT!!!

So it should be here next week.....and I can't wait. I am pretty excited about it :hyper:

I told the BF this morning and he goes "yeah, whats new, more tank stuff" (he doesn't understand)....

YAY!!!

WHOOO CONGRATS! I just found out today that my LFS has Glossostigma but the bad news was that their light was too bright or something and all of the Glosso died. They also have riccia (1 cup = 7 dollars) and some other nice plants too. Do you plan to carpet with the Glosso?

chook,
lfs around here have had it in for a while kempos and tank aquariums have had some for about 2 months, u prob just missed out, got a picture of ya tank?

I was hoping you'd reply gf225!!!

So, I have read that glosso likes a nutrient-rich substrate...I have sand....will root tablets help it grow or will I need liquid ferts as well?

I am assuming it will appreciate good light (I have 3.2wpg) and CO2 (which I also have)....is there anything else I need to know?

I am keen for this plant to work since I have wanted it for ages

Root tabs will help. If you have 3.2 WPG and CO2 then I would of thought you need liquid ferts anyway.

I beleive most people have problems concerning lack of light especially as Glosso is such a small plant and the light is required at the bottom of the aquarium. How deep is your tank?

With 3.2 WPG (I assume you have reflectors and good quality tubes) I can't see a problem. Glosso will grow "leggy" and upwards rather than carpet if light is too low.

Tank is 18 inches deep. Lighting is via compact fluoro tubes (4 months old) with reflectors :D - 6700/10000K spectrum.

I do routinely use liquid ferts but thought the glosso might benefit from root tabs as well.

The other plants I have (vals and swords) won't overshadow the glosso :D

I am starting a new glosso carpet in my 2g recently-- under 38 watts of lighting. There is no such thing as too much light for glosso. :p It's starting to spread pretty quickly in the third week since set up.

Thing you got to remember about plants like glosso, is that they evolved for very shallow pool type settings, so you have to accomodate them with tons of light, or make it shallow. In my 2g, the glosso is only about 7 inches away from the lights.

Also, I find length of time is important. Glosso likes a lot of hours. In a tank where I had a thick carpet, I lowered the hours to 7 once to fight off algae, and all the glosso went straight up within days. :(
