Hi,
I've been looking for a foreground plant now for ages- i've looked at such a lot of plants now and have got it down to either hair grass or glossostigma elatinoides or possibly Marsilra Crenata.

I must say I preffer glossostigma / marsilra but was wondering if anyone had any experience of it? I know it likes high light levels if i'm right - I have just over 2 wpg.

Which of these spreads the fastest and is easiest to look after? I did have hairgrass once and it turned black but it was a poor sample to start with.

Thanks a lot,
Simon.

Glosso needs lots of light and CO2 and even then it won't spread quickly. It cannot be shaded by any plants generally due to its light loving characteristics. With 2 WPG and DIY CO2 you may have difficulty - but you may be ok.

I have no experience with Marsilra crenata but it seemz to be much less demanding so I would go for this personally.

I am looking for a new carpeting plant at the moment too. I still have no idea though. I liked my hairgrass but fancy a change.

thanks GF - the dwarf 4 leaf clover (marsilra crenata) looks very nice and will like lower light. Thing is mine is a bit shaded at the front due to the lilly leaves and riccia on the surface.

I know what you mean about hairgrass, it doesnt do much for me.

Apparently the moss balls you see on Ebay make good ground cover as if you leave them without rolling them they will go flat giving a mossy carpet, think i'll try crenata though when i've seen the results of the blackout tomrrow!
