How old to baby platys have to be to give them away or sell them.My tanks way too small for lots of fish so il have to sell some when they are old enough.

hello dead_latters,

i think what i have read is that it will take around 3-4 months for platy fry to be big enough to sell. they need to be about an inch long.

of course if youre just giving them away to friends, they can take them at anytime.

If you want to sell them as adults, at 8 months they're colours will be in and reach maturity. At that age is when I sell mine to my fish store and are big enough not to be eaten by any other fish. At 3-4 months is when i put the fry back with the parents after having them removed, but if your thinking of selling them as feeders, then as csr said, 4 months is a good time.

Most lfs will take them for trade a 1" if they are a decent shop. I use the rule of thumb. My thumb is 1" wide, when they are as long as my thumb is wide I trade them in.

You will get more cash/credit if you do sell your fry when they are adult...but you should be able to give them in when they are able to be sexed. Any younger and I'm pretty sure they won't accept. Well that's how things work in my lfs.
