Lately, I've noticed a few chunks missing out of alot of the fish's finnage. Last night it was quite bad as i noticed on nearly every girls gills there was blood on them well obviously under the skin but it was there. Even my new little girl has most of her finnage missing underneath her tummy. The tanks already pretty full, ive seperated the girls into 2 10l tanks the 6 smallest girls are in one and the 5 bigger girls in the other. I'm just doing a big set up change around now, and ill see how things are after i've put them back in later. Hopefully its just a stage where they will fight now and again, but last night I had to put one girl in the breeding trap as she was in a mess. Is there any medication I can add to the tank to help heal all the damage to fins? one of the girls has a scale coming off've her body, is this due to her fighting maybe or do scales fall off every now and then? I havent seen any fighting and i have monitored them but i go school from 8-3 so in that time and night time things could get fiesty.

the blood under the girls skin is there like 2 lines of it if it is then all bettas have them when there happy or muture. you dont really need any medication to heal there fins they will be fine aslong as they have clean water
:D

yh thats normal then
my females have been fighting aswell
but just give them clean water and there fins should heal nicely

Oooh, silly girls fighting! Sorry to hear they aren't all getting along, hope they feel better, all I can really suggest is super clean water for a while!

thanks rezz, ill be doing 25% water changes every day for a few weeks now. The girls all had stress stripes just as i looked in so i turned off the aquarium light as there setlling in to the new tank layout. =]

It may be them just sorting out the heirarchy but keep an eye on them as you might have a "bully" female.
It happened with mine - just 1 female terrorising the whole lot.
LittleMonkey (on here) kindly took the 1 female for me and now the rest of the girls are a lot happier - colouringup nicely, stress stripes gone completely on all but one - and even hers are almost gone.

Ah yes! I think i may have a bully, i think its Angel as shes the beautifulist girl in the tank, i've never seen her with stress stripes and ive caught her a few times chasing and flaring at other females. But i couldnt get rid of her, shes my favourite! My first girl!

As you said you have added a new girl it will just be them moving about the heirarchy once again to acomodate her,
Ive recently had a new girl added to my tank and she keeps challanging the boss so theres a little squabling there but just make sure you have plenty of hiding spaces and if you see one thats perticuly bad then do as you have done and put in the net for a day or two
The only thing i can suggest medication wise is supper clean water or if you want to go the whole hog then either the tinyest pinch of aquarium salt or a half dose of melafix tho I know some people wont agree with me it is what works for me.
Hope they settle down soon for you tho

Thanks, i was thinking of putting the Angel into a breeding trap and seeing if the girls lost there stress stripes, that way ill find out who it is.
