Hello everyone,
Let me start with the tank set up. We have a 100 gallon fresh water tank. It houses one big, female common pleco (around 13 inches), a few wags, and two tiny African dwarf frogs. Our tank has been up and going for years in our office without many problems. The Fluval filter cleans up the tank pretty well, the tank has plenty of air with airstones going all of the time. We do weekly water changes and clean the Fluval bi-weekly. The problems started around a month ago when our former tiger barbs decided that they didn't like our pleco anymore and started picking on her by eating at her dorsal fin and tail. We promptly rehomed the tiger barbs and replaced them with a few additional wags. My pleco's dorsal fin healed up nicely without any issues. Now, her back tail is the problem. It looks like it has a white coating on it with yucky looking red bumps. Maybe the area the tiger barbs picked at is infected?
None of the other fish are sick. The pleco's tail doesn't appear to be getting any better and no one has any idea what is wrong with her. She is eating and swimming around but her tail looks like it has to hurt.
The water quality all tests out normal with the test kit I have, the liquid drop type tests not the dip stick tests. There don't seem to be any water quality issues.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my poor pleco and how to fix it? I don't want to just throw in chemicals randomly.....
