Yeah I think they like groups of a few more so I`m going to keep an eye out for some, they are about 5cm, one being slightly bigger haven`t a clue how to tell which is male and female. (female the larger one?)

Don't quote me on this but I believe you have to physically inspect them (if you get my meaning) unless I imagined that. Found this snippet so I was right:

Sexing: When trying to sex your synodontis, first you'll need to catch it.... Good Luck... Next, in great care of its sharp dorsal and side fins, place the catfish's dorsal in between your index finger and your middle finger, to hold the fish on its back. (Make sure the head is towards your palm and the tail is in the direction of your fingers, that way if the catfish wriggles, your less likely to get some damage done... To you that is)
Next pull the tail down gently, doing this should straighten the pelvic fins to reveal a furrow tissue underneath. The furrow will open to display the anus of the fish and the genital pore. The female will show an extended papillea but the oviduct is on the ventral side of ths papillea; if the female is mature a slight redness might be apparant. A small or thin female may have 2 pink pores, oviduct and anus. Males on the other hand have quite a ridged genital papillae on which the spermatoduct is on the back end facing towards the tail fin.
Females may apear more 'plump' also
.

Don't know how many, they were seen in the bag just before putting bag into tank for acclimatisation. By the time the fish were ready to go in the fry were back in mom's mouth. I expect they will get eaten for breakfast by the other fish though.

And..guess what I came back with 4 syno's, and I am in love  they are just the cutest little things, so interesting to watch. Thanks for all your kind comments.

Yeah pics pics pics! :hyper:

Still watching this space!

Right...stop watching....my camera can't focus in close enough or quick enough. I've sat for over an hour with the lens pressed to the glass but they're too quick for me.

This evening one of them has been piggy backing on the biggest Acei, and then bumping any of the others he can catch up with. Is he doing a hoovering job on the fish?

Right I think I need a new camera. Here are two photo's first one is of the Petricola trying to attach itself to the Acei.

There you go, you can do it. Not bad pics either. :D

Not shy are they.

Nice Cheffi, they will settle down and they are bl**dy hard to catch with the camera, the day before yesterday I was convinced one of mine had either been eaten or had jumped out of the tank I couldn`t find it at all then it appeared hours later haven`t a clue where it was hiding.

Thank you Ferris but why is it trying to get close to all the fish? Is it after their slime coat?

Highly unlikely, only suckermouth catfish like Plecs, flying fox's and otto's normally do this. I don't know why they are doing it but they will get a nip off Mbuna if they keep at it.
