Okay guys, I've had guppies for years and never experienced this:

I have a senior (she is almost 2 years old, and many times over a great grandma) who has lived in my 30gallon since she was a fry... She is actually longer than some of my lyretail mollies! She has always been super healthy and produced easily, but in the past 2 months she has started developing a hunchback. She is SUPER pregnant (you can easily see fry eyes in her giant gravid spot) and I am fairly certain this pregnancy is the cause of her bending spine (no signs of illness anywhere with her or her tankmates, just a marble sized belly) ive never seen any of my other females do this, of course my next biggest Guppy female is HALF her size (and the same age, actually her sister from the same drop)

I guess my question is, how common (or at least "known to happen") is "gigantism" in Guppies? And could that be why she is starting to bend in the middle with this pregnancy? Is it possible she is just a mutant, or suffering some age related hormonal imbalance? She hasn't been with a male guppy for almost a year, she HAS been exposed to Lyretail Sailfin Molly males however (and the male she is loving with DOES mate with her frequently, and has since he was put in the tank...) All her babies have looked like regular guppies so I assumed she was just using sperm left over from her time with a male guppy long long ago... Is it possible that she "used up" all her reserves of male guppy sperm and fertilized this batch with Molly sperm and THAT is why she is so pregnant that she is starting to fold in the middle? Seems like a strange theory, but it's a strange thing how big she is...

All water peramaters are fine, all fish in the tank are healthy and happy, and even she is pretty happy looking inspire of the developing bend in her back and massive pregnancy... Any thoughts?

Hmmm... Ive heard and seen pictures of Molly crossed with guppy fry. So that could be the reason. But then again Molly/guppy fry would probably be the same size as normal guppy fry. When they grow up they are usually like a giant guppy with molly features. Ive also heard that fish that develop a hunched spine are usually old and close to passing. Its normal in older guppies. The average life span of a guppy is about 2 years anyway. You better keep a close eye on her when she gets close to dropping. If shes 2 years already she could die during the birthing.

Im not an expert, nowhere near it actually, but Ive heard different things. Hope this helps at least a little and sorry if im wrong about anything. Im fairly new to breeding guppies.

I hope your guppy gets better and has healthy fry!

That is about in line with everything I've heard and experienced, so it was a very reassuring response, and thank you.

That big female HAS out lived most guppies I have, I've been breeding for 5 years, never had one get as big as her or live as long (she and her sister from the same drop ads my oldest guppies as far as I know... I have many others in my ponds and water container gardens... But I'm not so intimately familiar with them as individuals... They kinda multiply beyond your ability to know individuals)... It makes perfect sense, and was kind of what I was thinking anyway. Just sometimes it helps to get another opinion or to have something confirmed :)

I figured she was old and things were going a little haywire with hormones and it LOOKS like her belly is what is pulling her spine into a bend... Poor girl, that's got to be miserable.

This must be the one you're talking about????

LOL not quite... But close!

I'll see if I can get a decent photo of her, she is bigger than the mollies... And I've never seen a guppy get quite that big before. LOL but definitely not quite like that photo!
