hi i have a giant gourami about 6 inches long i bought her a few weeks ago.
she had a small white mark on her side when i bought her and its since got worse, its hard to describe but
its like a ulcer/and her scales are coming away today.
she is very lethargic and not eating and keeps laying on her side
all i have with her is 3 plecs and a red tail shark?
any advice please i dont want to lose her
thank you

Do you have a tank to put her in? If so fill up the tank 50-75% with water from your current tank and the rest with new water (put a filter on it if you have one, or do 25% water changes EVERY DAY). If you don't have another tank do a 50% water change in your main tank, then go to the pet store and ask about meds. How often do you do a water change (not add, but take some water out and add fresh)?

HI ABOUT ONCE A FORTNIGHT ANY IDEA WHAT IT IS?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Gouramis are very prone to bacterial infections and it sounds like one, you will need to add a bacterial med fast, also water tests in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph would be good, and size of tank in gallons or litres.

Need a bacterial med, the tank size is that in inches or cm.

Some pleco species have a tendency to suck other fishes' slime coats, especially those of slow-moving fish. And because plecos are often more active at night, yours might have been sucking on the gourami every night while you are asleep without you knowing it. If I were you, I would separate the gourami from the plecos as soon as possible.

It's probably more likely that it is a bacterial infection, in which case you should (as mentioned by Nevernormalalwayscrazy) do lots of water changes. As for medicine, formalin is effective on many types of bacteria.

Keep in mind that it's much easier to prevent the disease in the first place by doing frequent water changes than it is to treat the disease once it shows up. Sometimes with fish disease it's difficult to know exactly what the cause is or even whether it is bacterial, viral, or fungal, and it's even more difficult to figure out what the best medicine to use is. Also, it wasn't wise to buy a fish that was already diseased unless you had a hospital tank and were willing to treat the fish.
