How long can ghost shrimps live for and what do they eat? Let me know please, thank you
Can ghost shrimps just feed off algae and such in aquariums and can they live with cichlids?
Thank you

They live for a couple of years. Yes they can eat algae but they also eat many other things too like fish food. Don't know about cichlids and ghost shrimp since I have no experience with that combination.

Most shrimp tend to live around a year, i once read an article that said ghost shrimp can live for 10 years but i very much doubt that. I would say anywhere in between 1-3 years. They eat pretty much anything, basicly they will eat what your fish are eating.

Nope, they will need to eat just like fish do, ghost shrimp aren't very good algae eaters. And it depends what species of cichlid you are talking about. If you want a shrimp that eat lots of algae, get amano shrimp, but they cannot live off the algae in your tank alone :) .

In short, usually live for around 1 year, no they are not good algae eaters like already stated, and depends on what cichlid but most will probably think of them as tasty snacks.

I don't think ghost shrimp eats any algae at all. Or maybe some species do, but I doubt they're any good at it.

You need lots of them to eat algae..

They will most likely be killed and eaten by cichlids.

I wouldn't expect them to live long.. ghost shrimp are bred for food, not to live long.

The longest I've had one live was maybe 2 months.

My single ghost shrimp eats algae, the reason why I know is because they eat algae flakes. They also eat brown algae (diatoms), but yeah like someone mentioned they should be fed fish flakes too because they likely cannot live off algae alone since that only eat algae when there's nothing to eat.

Depending on where you live depends on what you will get as ghost shrimp. The ghost shrimps most commonly sold in the UK are high end brackish to full marine species, so tend not to do so well long term in freshwater tanks.
