Well the story goes.... Molly's from my larger tank had fry, and I was unfortunately only able to save 1 from the big bad angel fish and the gourami's! As seen here.....

Now as this happened a weekend I was back from uni i couldn't really leave the monitoring of the little thing to anyone else as they already feed my main tank whilst i'm away  ... so I decided to bring him with me!

Hardware brought with:
The tank is a carefully selected lunchbox approx capacity 1ltr.
A little gravel in the bottom, for asthetic purposes and also as this is from my main tank will have bacteria in it already.
Water straight from the main tank
Thermometer

Live stock
The lonely small molly fry, 1 day old.
Couple of snails (was thinking that these will keep the place cleaner, and also mildly amusing to watch)
some cuttings of plants in there too, for some naturalness.

Improvised....
Heat source is basically by placing the small tank right next to the outlet fan of my computer and putting it on a blanket to try and insulate it a little. Can be made hotter by running cpu intensive applications! Looking for a way to maybe duct the air towards the tank a little though as is only 23'c. Any ideas?

Now i know this solution is far from ideal, but I'd like to let at least one fry live and if it were left at home would certainly not survive...

Not keeping my hopes up that this is going to last a week (this is the next time i visit home) but can you suggest anything to help?

Thanks for the replies - have the cover on at the moment which is the box lid but as it is opaque I'll need to leave it off for the day time? Will continue to monitor temperatures and see how it goes anway.

That will work. But put a filter in it (DIY filter will work for that size). And put a cover on top, but not too tight that it will cut off air circulation. :good:

Is this filter active or passive? anything needs to be passive that is placed in the tank!

Uhh it bubbles up, if that's what you're asking  I suggested the diy filter not only for the filtering part, but also for breaking up the surface to get oxygen and avoiding stagnant water. But if you can't/don't want to put one in, add more plants to keep water quality better. That should be alright for 1 molly fry :good:

Thanks, absolutely love your tank by the way! Looking for some Riccia/java moss to create a similar moss for part of my main tank :)

look in the diy section, there is a pinned article on how to make a sponge filter in 5 minutes  :good:
