The last fish in my tank died today. Yellow Gourami, lived about 3 years I think.

Well, now I'm hoping to get some more fish, and wondering what people would recommend?

Tank is about 12 inches deep and 24 inches in width.

I'm looking for something not too small and not too big, a medium sized kinda fish. Preferably fish that I can use to test before getting anything else, I'm not looking for too many for the first lot.

All help appreciated.

Before you get any more fish try to work out what your fish died of -yellow gouramis can live 10 or more years so it wasn't old age.
Take a sample of the water into a fish shop & ask them to test it.

After examining the tank some more, it seems to me like the filter was blocked. I'd been on holiday for a week, and left my sister to feed the fish each day, and the tanks water was bearly moving from the filter.

The fish itself looked very healthy, obviously being dead didn't help, but there were no fin problems or fungus on it's body, and my sister says it was looking fine every day she fed it.
