I recently moved, and now my only resource for acquiring fish is a local petsmart. I was wondering if anyone on the forums sells fish and can ship them out, or if anyone has had any success with a non local dealer, as far as how stressed the fish were/ were properly taken care of.
Thanks in advance.

Fish can be packed so they can go overnight, if the dealer knows about it and knows how to do it :good: Ask any dealer you are considering using in advance if they have the fish you want, and the facilities to pack them for an hour longer than you expect your return trip to take if it's more than an hour away. It would be a shame to get to the store to find it's a wasted jorney... When you collect the fish, tell them how long you expect to be traveling for before they start bagging up, and the dealer can then package your fish accordingly :good:

There are a few people that breed fish on here, and many will post. Ebay and a few on-line dealers will also ship out :good:

I'm not based in the US, so cannot realy recomend local-ish sources

All the best

Repeat, I have had some success receiving fish in the mail and using Fedex and UPS. If you are buying from a reputable dealer that understands how to pack fish for shipment, it can be a good source for fish that are not available locally. Usually the shipping makes the fish quite expensive this way, but if it makes the difference between getting the fish you want and not getting them, the expense is less important.

all but two of my fish were shipped to me. even in the coldest parts of the year. which here can reach -50 with the windchill I have received fish via Fedex and UPS and have yet to lose a fish in transit. there are a few things to consider the breeder/shipper. I get my cichlids from 2 sources one of which I am sure if I asked nice enough would get something for me but for the most part I use Jeff Rapps. secondly the carrier never had a problem with UPS since I know the UPS man and he will ring the bell a couple times because he knows it drives the dogs crazy and that will get my wifes attention while I am not home. I am less then impressed with Fedex however as they didn't even knock or ring the bell just left the sorry I missed you note and took off. I ened up calling them and got my fish but I had to drive out about 10 miles to meet the guy at a gas station to get them.
