Well i gave my oscar away, and im cleaning out the tank completely, going to let it dry for a couple days and then im going to set it back up. But i have playsand as the subtrate.

what is the easiest way to remove the sand? im usuing a cup and scraping the bottom right now, is their a better way?

Thanks

Have you tried using a net or your vacum cleaner to scoop it up? You know if you break the tank down you will have to recycle the tank. So if you don't want to recycle the tank I'd advise you to go and get the fish that you want for the tank right now so none of the bacteria will die. What's the size of the tank (gallons, or liters)

Maybe scrape out as much of the sand as you can with the cup and then put the tank on the grass on its side and hose it down. That's what i did with mine to get gravel out when i was changing from gravel to sand.

The best way to remove sand is with a trick I learned from reading one of Inchworm's posts a while back. Take the big end off you gravel vacuum so that it's just the hose. Start the syphon going and stick the end down to the sand. It will suck up everything. Don't get it too close to any plants or it will suck those in too. I know you don't have any fish now but for anyone else that tries this, be careful around them as it will also suck up fish or shrimp. I removed all the sand from my 29 gallon this way. You may have to put a little water back in if the water comes out too fast but it will definitely suck the sand (gravel too) out.

Thank you for the quick replies, im going to try the one that RDD has suggested.

As for recycling the tank, i am aware, and im going to keep the filter running on another tank.

Thanks for all the sugestion everyone..
