Tank is starting to cycle correctly but now it looks like some of the fish have what looks like tiny white grains of sand on them and they are trying to scratch them off on the gravel.

I have Ick medication. Must I remove all the filters with carbon? Will this screw up the cycle? Will ammonia and nitrates go up again? And will it kill the baby fish?

use this

remove active carbon from the filter as this will remove the medication making it useless. shouldn't mess up the cycle but its best to do a fishless cycle as no fish get harmed and you will have more filter bacteria, resulting in your filter being able to coape with more waste.

use this for fishless cycle help.

and whilst im here use this for weekly maitenence

and if your cycle goes realy bad use this to ask for some mature media.

shang hi

Will I have to replace the carbon filters? Will they still be parasitic? Can I kill the parasites on the filters?

The parasites wont be living in your filter and the medication will kill them anway. Throw your carbon I wouldnt put it back in, and to be honest, you shouldnt really be running carbon all the time, unless you have a reason to.

Follow Shang Hi 's instructions and you should be fine.

knock temp up to 80to81 and leave for a few days this will kill the parasite. just to be on the safe side half dose
with king British ws1 this should not do any harm to filter bacteria do aerate well as upping the temp depletes oxygen

good luck biff :good:

good stuff, thank you everybody.

and no one has died in many days...woohooo!
