Hello everyone,

I currently have aquarium salt in my aquarium as when i got my fish they were in aquarium salt. The first time i changed it they dided. so is it okay when i do water changes not to put aquarium salt and like wean them off of it??

Do small, but frequent water changes for a while. Like 10% a day or however frequently you can do them. Over time, the concentration of salt will gradually become very low: 100% --> 90% --> 81% --> 73% --> 66% --> 60% --> 54% --> 49% and so on. After 8 or so 10% water changes, you can then do 20 or 25% water changes. Then you can go back to your regular maintenance schedule.

Are you sure it was the water changes/salt that killed your fish? Did you eliminate all the other possibilities? The reason I ask is because it seems unlikely that simply a change in salt concentration, unless it was very large, should be so deadly. Especially at "typical" freshwater aquarium salt levels -- don't the boxes say something like one tablespoon per 5 gallons or something? That's a pretty low concentration.

lol, true that, but. I brought them fromt he LFS and jsut put them in fresswater without aquarium salt and they were in aquarium salt. LOL.. so that's why they died. But i will be sure to do the water changes as much as i can. Thanks for the input!
