after trying allsorts to help my sons aging betta we bought swimbladder treatment and its turned the water yellow/green, well the poor fish died and i thought rather than pack away the tank i would get another betta, i have re washed the sand and all ornaments rinsed the filter in old tank water and put all fresh (dechlorinated) water in, yet the water still has a hint of green i just cant get rid of it, despite another water change, any suggestions?

activated carbon in the filter media should help. it helps remove tannings from bog wood

thats as long as it isn't an algae of course

there are carbon baskets in the filter as its part of the hood, i took them out to treat the tank, should i put more carbon in? it deffo not algae the chrystal  clear water changed in les than a second with the treatment, which was green in the bottle

carbon should do the trick. it'll most likely just take time, i always find that if you have a hint of discoloration in the water it can bring out the fish's colour. Just keep up the water changes and it'll go away over time.

thanks, will any residue harm a new fish, ive already picked out a beautiful purple one

If the carbon has been in the filter for more than a couple of weeks, it will be saturated and will need replacing.

no, it was only 4 days max, regular water changes and new carbon soon got rid of it, however, my new betta dosnt seem to be eating, this time round i bought betta flakes instead of pellets as i assumed the shop i bought him from only sold flake, so that what he was fed, has anyone else come across this before,
