my red platy just died and we are getting rid of my angels. i am going to get a bunch of guppies and platys. should i go by the normal rule 2 per male or what?
also i got a net breeder and it is 5 1/2 by 5/12 by 6 inches. is this a good size (for one fish)? can i stick a plant in here?

1 male to every 2 females will be fine/ also guppies can be kept as pairs when kept in a large group.
guppies are normally hardy fish however their are a lot of sick and weak guppies turning up in the lfs.
the reason for this is mass production and fish being kept in Unfavourable water conditions thelr are good quality guppies about but are geting harder to find.

a small plant in your net breeder will be fine.

thanks. i am going to get 1 male 3 or four females guppies and 2 more female platys. i currently have 2 platies, 1 male 1 female, will the male be ok with 3 females? i have to wait a week till my ph goes down. then im going to get them.
i put a small plant from the large tank in the breeder so she will feel more comfortable. last night she was rubbing her stomach against the plant so i thinks she's due soon :yahoo: .

You are getting good advice from Lilfishie. Your tank will be crowded with both types of fish. My question is how high you pH is. If it is less than 8.0, it will be fine for guppies or platies. That would be very high for an angel but it's fine for a livebearer.
