I'm looking to get a pair of Keyhole Cichlids soon.

So I was just wondering if people could give my tank a quick look over and tell me if anything needs changing?

I would like them to breed, but I haven't set myself out to breed them, so if they do they do sort of thing :)

I will be adding some more plants I just need some help into choosing them.

I will also be removing the internal filter.

Fish in there at the minute are:

1 Ancistrus Plec
5 Glowlight Danio's
5 Julii Corydoras
3 White Cloud Mountain Minnow

------
Once I've set up the second tank I will most likely move the Minnows over.

I would like to bulk the Danio's upto about 15... or would that be too many?

Also possibly get one more Julii Corydoras and maybe 3 Otto's.

Can anyone see if there would be any problems with the stock once the Keyholes are fully grown?

How big is the tank? looks like it could end up a bit cramped, ancistrus get a nice size to them once adult.

What size is the tank?

I dont see any problems in your stocking although i wouldnt add ottos i would stick with the BN or 2 if theres room.

It really depends on how big the tank is but i would say it looks around 30G
If thats the case you could have

1 BN plec
10 Glowlight Danio's
6 Julii Corydoras
2 Keyhole cichlids (if you want to try breeding it would be best to get 4 and wait for 2 to pair then sell the other 2)

You dont want a bn if you want them to breed they are devils for eating eggs, a terracotta plant pot or coconut shell is an ideal cave for them. My pair like to spawn in a plant pot.

It's a 98litre tank, measurements are: 70cm x 35cm x 40cm

Problem with the Ancistrus is that he/she isn't really doing the job. I mean I don't have any algae except of the HC I took out no long ago, also he/she has been recently going after the Corydoras :S

Its true. My BN loves caviar and my angels never see their eggs last more than 4 or 5 hours. Then again, what the heck would I do with angel fry anyway so it works for me. Why do you think your BN is not doing a good job if there is no problem with algae? Don't get it.

That being said, sounds like you might want to rehome the BN and get otos instead. I find otos more fragile than BN and if there is no algae in the tank they are hard to keep fed.

I think a pair of keyholes would be okay in your tank but a bit cramped. It would be nice to plan a slightly larger tank for them.... something around a 35 gallon or bigger gives you more options for a community.

andyour BN will need feeding anyhow on something other than algae as they love food just for them

Keyholes are lovely as they get bigger was looking at some yesterday

Tank looks fine to me, is that a cave in the sand somehow on the right hand

Good news hearing your getting some KH's!

I've had mine a good 5 months or so now and loved them ever since I got them.
They are very peaceful and good little characters, mine aren't a breeding pair but they do keep each other company around the tank.

James.

Oh yeah I put flake food and catfish pellets in at feeding time.

All the BN plecs I've had in the past have died on me, so I don't have any real interest in keeping them, I much prefer otto's :)

I do have a Juwel Rekord 96, so it's a bit longer but it's about the same literage or possibly less.

I would like to try and get a Rio 125 or something of a similar size though.
