well , ever since i came to this site i have been somewhat entranced by all of your beautiful bettas :D . im currently in spain atm < i luckily stumbled upon someones wireless signal , its just between me and the mother :shifty: >. i saw a 40l tank w/ heater and decided to buy it. im going to the store tomorrow morning to get it. i dont think it comes w/ a filter though , if i just do lots of water changes will this be a problem? < ill buy a filter if i have to >. anyway , when we get back in three weeks , the mother agreed to buy the bettas ( im going to divide the tank in two and keep a male and a female < not for breeding dont worry > ) off aquabid . sorry if im counting my eggs before they hatch but im soooooooo excited!

You dont really need a filter but in a 40 liter(10 gallon here in U.S.) it probably would be best to get one but you may have to put a sponge over the intake to slow down current but thats not a problem. I'd say you have pretty much everything sorted out. Good luck With the new tank and bettas.

I only have a filter on one of my individual betta tanks. You don't need one as long as you do 100% water changes, and do them often enough. :)

got the tank . turns out its just 20liters ( which still keeps with the 2.5 gal minimum if i divide it ) :good: . im guessing at this size a filter isnt necessary. you sayto do 100% water changes. i take it i dont need to cycle the tank then ( im presuming i just add dechlored water  ). 100% water changes are cool with me , how often?

As long as you can find a filter without a strong current then filter/cycle it. Then you will only need 25-50% water changes every week. So much easier for you, and a more comfortable and stable environment for your betta. :)

i dont thinks its likely ill find one small enough around here , however - i will look into it , who else here uses the 100% water change method - would you recomend it for a 5 gal?

i was under the impression that some aquabid sellers will ship internationally , am i mistaken? and also im not in the uk , its ireland :p

My smaller tanks I use 100% water change.. but anything over 3 gallons and I just cant be bothered to lug all that was around every week. I stuff loads and loads of filter floss in the filter to slow the current if its a bit too strong :D
