Hi all!

I live a mile away from Lake Superior and am interested in gathering some driftwood from the waterfront and using it in my aquarium. Now, I know I'd have to clean it somehow before I put in it my aquarium, but how do I go about this?

Thank again!

You may have to use a pressure washer to knock off any loose particles. You may also have to soak the piece in clean water for a few weeks before introducing it. Be sure to keep the water clean while soaking. Ive heard some say to completely dry it before soaking. Ive never had to do this so Im going by my aging memory from something I read. Im sure someone else that has the experience will be along soon to answer your question. Hope this helps.

Well first of all, the wood from the lakes usually it's ok cause it's been soaked in water for a while, though every time you add something to the aquarium must be boiled, for around 10 minutes.

When we talk about introducing wood we must be very careful cause it can putrefy in the aquarium and be a danger to fishes.

I would boiled 2 times a day for about a week before put it in the aquarium besides, you have to realise that wood removes out tannin if it isn't properly boiled that would turn the water of your tank brown, that won't harm your fishes but tannin reduces PH, you better watch out.
