Getting Back Into Fish Keeping!

hi, im getting back into fish keeping ater being out for about a year (couldnt keep away! ) i read about using sand in tanks but that it needs washed first . . . . . How do you wash sand, this may sound silly and im sorry if this is a daft question but i cant suss it out! Also how many times do i need to wash it?

if anyone could help that would be ace

i put some in a bucket, run warm water ( tho cold only at the end to ensure i dont get the cloudiness of hot water from the tank confused with muck) and swirl it then let it settle for a second or 2 then pour out the water from the top, being carefull not to loose your sand obv, get your hands right in the sand to swirl it, do this until the water is clear when the sand has settled for a sec or 2, may take a good few goes depending on what sand you use, i use argos play sand
