im getting a 165 liter tank to replace my little 65 liter
im just asking if putting my fish in the bigger tank will make them angry or sad is it ok to put fish is diffrent tanks or not?

if the fish you are transferring are the ones in your siggy, they should all be happy with a bigger tank, just make sure you fishless cycle it first!!

there are pinned topics about fishless cycling in the noob section if you are unsure what i mean by this.

hth, merry.

ok thank you merry so i have to cycle for 1 week then i can put in the fish?
cant wait to get my tank

Hi crazyaussie :)

Your fish will love their new habitat!

There is no need to cycle it if you can transfer your filter (or at least the media) to the new tank. If so, it will immediately support all the fish that are in your current tank with no additional cycling.

Your fish will be delighted to have a bigger tank. More swimming room. So it should work out perfectly. We need some pictures if this new tank.

i will get pictures soon
and thank you for telling me about not having to cycle but i dont think my filter will work the tank is to big

Just take all the media out the your old filter and put it into the new one. It is ok, if you have to take some of the new media out to get the old stuff to fit.

Mikaila31's right. The bacteria you have living in the old media will support the fish you currently have. It's not the size of the tank that matters, it's the number and size of the fish.

On your new tank, you could have your new filter running and put the old filter in the tank as well, so both are running it, that way you still have a cycled filter as well as the new one. after 1-2 weeks, take the old one out..

That will be ok surely.

do i really need to have two filters because im getting an new filter with the tank do you really need the media or will the fish die without it?

The media, will have all the bacteria needed to keep everything stable.

What you will be best of doing is, get your old filter media, and squeeze all the crap out of it in to the media in the new filter, do it loads of time, (keep soaking the old filter media in the tank water the filter came from) this way you will be adding all the beneficial bacteria etc to the new filter media, and then you can just use the new one :)

so putting in the media in my old filter means i can put in my fish in without cycling?

Another idea is if you or someone else has an established tank, you can get a stocking, grab a huge hunk of gravel and put it in the stocking, tie it up and put it in the new tank on the gravel. This works great.
