go down your LFS and see what you like in terms of fish :) its all about personal preference

you'll need to cycle it too

Hi. Well the basics are the filter and heater. The heater should be 105-140 watts minimum so my reccomendation would be a 150W heater. The filter should be rated at 140-175 gallons per hour minimum so I would reccomend a filter that is rated at 200-250 gallons per hour. That should give you lots of filtration, and the heater will be able to keep up easily on colder days.
As for fish, it really does come down to personal taste. Look and see what you like in a store, then come back and research how big they get, how aggressive they are etc. Members here will be able to help you narrow down what will work and what is likely to cause you problems. The decor is also up to you. Some prefer sand substrate, others gravel. Plants can be real or fake, some add wood, rocks etc. Check out the pictures forum for some ideas there. Good luck!
