eb's are thought to be less aggressive but they are still jd's so the aggression still exists.

other then its color and there maby less aggressive part to them are there other differencers like do they grew to the same size? are there differencers in looks or shape or are there any other thing that may not be the same as the normal JD ......

They are exactly the same except for the supposed aggression, but I don't think there is even a 100% aggreement that they are less aggressive. O, I guess another difference is that ou can't just breed two eb's to get eb fry. I don't think eb fry will survive as they will have weak gene data. I don't remember how exactly they need to be bred to get eb fry but there are a few people on TFF who do know.

probly will get one of them ruther then the normal ones i think .......pluss i dont plan on breeding any i just am going to get one of them ...you said they will have weak gene data. do you think that the adults may get sick easyer?

Its always a possibility but i wouldnt worry too much as long as you arn't swapping out new fish all the time to introduce new bacteria and keep up on your water changes. Since I settled on my jd's final tank occupants about a year ago, he hasnt had any cases of illness so it really is quite easy to keep fish healthy as long as you don't do anything too foolish.

The eb is a beautiful fish (even though Im still more partial to their natural coloration  ), and I hope you enjoy it for its life :good:

thanks :good: for the info this site can be very help full ...im going to be sad  if the JD and the shark dont like each other cuz the more i read on the JD and the pics i see make me want one alot more  and i dont no about other peepl but when i think about geting a new fish that i realy like i cant wait and start wanting to get it as soon as i can  but sighs i have to wait till i move and get a realy big tank so they dont kill each other when they meet...i guess all i can do now is take look at more pic to think about if i realy want a EB JD or a normal JD they have nice pics on the net

Yes, going slow is the best method for doing anything with fish keeping. Doing tons of research at either an lfs (reputable one, not those chain stores), a library (so many people forget these still exist), or online forums such as TFF can help immensly when that finally comes when you take the plunge into anything new.

The best example of this is our saltwater admin friend Steelhealer. A month or two ago he had brought up the idea of making an atlantic biotype of fish from around the long island area. Ask anyone on this forum and they will tell you that SH has an amazing knowledge of the salty side of fish keeping but he didnt just jump into it. He posted for quite awhile on TFF asking other members if they had info to gather and also called local universities for information. This shows that no matter how much you know, you can always learn something more and shouldn't feel embarrased if you don't know something :good:

I would assume that it will turn out to look like the adult as in like what happens to oscars when they grow up, but I could be wrong, not really sure on this

hmmmm :look: if some do grew up to be that strang blotchy blue i would pick a normal JD cuz the normal JD look realy nice as well the adults in that web site are what i thort the electric blue jack dempsey looked like and i still hope they will cuz thats what i wanted cuz it still looks a lot like the normal jd but the scales are a nice blue and i like that blue(every one has there own tast) ................................ good site nice pics and it sort of answers the color qestion i asked http://bluejax.co.uk/default.aspx

Very good fizban. That sounds like some really good info on that link you posted. The breeding is spelled out pretty clearly which is something most people don't understand but it is how actual geneology works. Only a couple things I will dissagree with on are that he/she says you will get half ebs and half reg jds. This is not necessarily the case. That case is for an ideal situation and considering even numbers. The second Punnet square he shows is just the chance for what the genes of each single offspring can be, so you can have a hatching of more reg jd's than ebs or vice versa... and then it also obv depends on how many of each survives. Also, the tank requirements they state are a little meager IMO. 36" is not big enough for a single JD (maybe if its the worst case) but to say its ok for a pair is quite a bit off I think. A pair needs lots of room for "marital bickering". Wow, thats a bad way to put it but during courtship and after the fry are past the wiggler stage, the parents will need a little space to go about the their own business and room to run away from the other parent if things get a little to violent. But as I said, very good site overall! :good:
