from the Freecycle website:
The Freecycle Network™ is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Each local group is run by a local volunteer moderator. Membership is free. The Network provides individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to "recycle" unwanted items.

I had mentioned this on the Buy/Sell/Swap board but I thought it might be of use to post the info here as well since not everyone looks at that board and some people may not have heard of Freecycle.

I've seen aquariums, aquarium ornaments (there's some on my local right now but I don't want a Greek Amphora in my tank! LOL!), bags of aquarium paraphernalia and so on - all being given away for free.

Also (currently being offered on my group): toilets (!!!), beds, refrigerators (a popular item, they seem to come up alot), freezers, inkjet printers, books of all sorts, magazines, washing machines, plastic bags, buffet tables, tv's, shoes.. you name it.

go to: http://www.freecycle.org/
and check it out.

You can post "Wanted" msgs as well, but you're asked not to abuse the system and post those more than once a month since the network would grind to a halt if everyone got greedy and filled it with wanteds.

otoh, I've seen people post "Wanted: Laptop" - AND GET THEM!!! though you have to take what you get and obviously, what you get for free isn't going to be anywhere near the latest & the best. more like 10 yrs old.

Still, it's a very cool thing.

does it apply to the UK aswell then???

i saw that on the news a while back but i don't think there was anything local to me.

wow!! just found out there's a colchester one i'm joining.

I love Freecycle! My mom got me hooked on it last month

Cool, theres A Massive brummy 1.

Cheers for the Info.

Aw man, everything tank related is gone. There is a 4 month old jack russel, hopefully it is still available. I put my cichlid pellets up on there and someone wants them!

Ah yeah - I remember rumblings about this idea when I worked at the Environment Agency. Wonder if theres anything local to me...

thanks for the link! there are 3,000+ members just in Boulder, Colo and over 5,000 members in Denver metro! I've joined the boulder group. Nothing aquarium related today, but I'm keeping my eyes out. :)

great idea for recycling!
