is there anywhere on the forum that gives a broad indication of how long a species of fish can expect to live for in ideal conditions?

ive read that catfish can live for a significant number of years but say platies only for 4!

Depends on the species.....need to ask in each forum i guess if you want to know every fishes age. or try google. it seems to have almost everything else on there so why not this right?

I remember seeing an article about a goldfish that lived in a bowl for 42 years it was the oldest goldfish in britain i belive.

He or she couldn't have much of a life though, Bowls should be banned.We should take a leaf from rome where they have been banned.

I agree, and most people who have goldfish in bowls do nothing to take care of them and sometimes will not even feed them for days and then just dump a bunch of food in once a week. They are bad for fish keeping

Why should bowls be banned ? Do you mean small bowls or any size bowl ? True its easy to over stock a bowl but isnt it just as easy to overstock a tank ? I've got a tank and a bowl, my bowl is currently empty but im thinking about setting it up for some tetra's would there be any problems with that ?

goldfish in goldfish bowls i was getting at.but to be honest i personally wont put any fish in bowls,thats just my opinion.I like to give my fish a good run(run i mean swim).Hate to see fish going round and round and round.It depresses me.....
