I recently purchased a pair of German rams. I've been reading that the prefer a low ph of 5 - 6. My ph is close to 7.5. Is it really necessary to have a low ph? If so, what's the best way to achive this. Also, can they tolerate salt? Thanks.

well my ph is between 7.2-7.4 and my blue ram has done fine for the last 2 weeks, no problems, but he's the first I've owned, but I'll let you know if anything goes wrong, I think they should do fine though as long as PH is constant; I think the high ph will just lead to less color maybe, and they probably won't breed, but I could be wrong about this too (my ram is quite colorful, If he's less colored then others I'd love to see a ram in optimum conditions)

I hope they'll be o.k. I'm glad to see yours doing well. There such a beautiful fish. I love the colors. I'm assuming Blue Rams are the same thing as German Rams? This is the first time of had this kind of fish.

yeah same thing, German BLUE ram and German GOLD ram, just different color strainds, both breed in Germany.
