i'll be moving and redoing my tank in a couple of years, but this time i want to get it done right! so far this is what i think i want in my 60g (4'x1'x2'):

-- 3 L200 Plecs (got 'em)
-- 1 Paradise Fish (got it)
-- 6+ Colombian Blue Tetras
-- 6+ Dwarf Sunset Platies
-- 1 Breedng Pair of Jewel Cichlids?
-- 1 Breeding Pair of German Rams?

i'm mostly just asking out of curiousity, but could both sets of breeders be managed simultaneously? if not, could a single jewel be kept with the rams? and if not even that, which set of cichlids would be happier in the given set-up?

jewels are little bite sized terrors imo. I have seen whole tankfuls of new worlds torn up including some of the really nasties, like festae, odos, and midas juvies, and then a perfectly fine jewel at lfs in the past, I can only imagine what they would do to a pair of rams

I wouldn't put rams in with a breeding pair of Jewels...

i kept and bred Red Forest Jewels for nearly a year.(i sadly traded them in for a breeding pair of Block Head Cichlids....need a change)
they are only terrors when breeding and with smaller community fish.
i bred mine in a massivly overstocked (size of fish wise, not amount fish wise) 40g for a while(mainly because their tank was being used for fry and they bred sooner then i expected) and they only nipped a bit at the other fishes tails(all new worlds) but no one ever died.

they wern't aggresive at all to bigger fish but to little fish they were.
i had to devide a tank once with them on one side and an Apistogramma and a few neons on the other side, and all they did was stare at the apisto and attacked the devider(oviously trying to get to them ram).
so it's a thing they have with little fish.

But back to your stocking.

Why not get a pair of rams and
a pair of Block Head Cichlids (Dwarf, West African, dont get overly aggresive)
OR
a pair of Bolivian Ram
OR
a trio of Apistogramma :)
OR
a pair of Dwarf Acara (i.e Keyhole)
OR
one or two Festivum Cichlids(grow to about 6 inches MAX and stay at the top and are pretty peaceful, they like shade so if you decide to get them, get some tall plants)

good luck
