Hey; I have just finished cyclig my 15G hex tank.

I have seen some Rams at my LFS and really like them. I have read that they like a pH of around 6.50. I have a planted aquarium, which in my opinion is doing really well. Unfortunately, my water is around 7.50 pH.

I dont want to add a buffer as I've heard they take all the goodies for the plants out of the tank water.

I have bogwood and caves but the wood doesn't seem to be reducing the pH and there are no other practical methods I have heard, except adding peat, which is a definate no.

Will the rams be okay if I introduce them into it?

Rams prefer acidic water when breeding, but they are fine otherwise. I've read about people who have kept them in as high as 7.8. Not saying that you may or may not have problems, every fish is different and some are bred to be tougher than others. If you want to play it safe, I know Bolivians are a lot more tolerant of a variety of water params.

Also, ask the person who you are buying them off what the pH in thier tanks are. It will most likely be the same as yours. In that case, Im sure you'll be fine.

Blue rams are very sensitive to water parameters...

As long as you keep your water parameters very stable, there should be no problem. Just take your time to acclimate them well.

as long as ph is stable, you are fine, just take the time to acclimate them correctly. a local breeder where i am breeds the german blue rams in a ph of just over 8.0, your water will be just fine as long as you make sure it says stable!
