hi
i have a 190l tank with external filter currently inhabited by platies, cardinals, a neon and a glowlight, shrimps and nerites, and a pair of gouramis that i have purchased today (acclimatised for 4 weeks to our local water by lfs). water out the tap is ph 8.2, so is my tank and lfs. ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 40 (lfs 50).
i desperately would love to have some german blue rams but know they need a lower ph. not keen on chemically reducing ph for fear of see-sawing levels. i had heard that you can add peat to the filter but pressuming this will turn the water brown. does anyone have any tips on reducing ph in a stable way to an acceptable level for all existing inhabitants and the german blues? i assume german blues and the gouramis would get along?
