Right now i'm pretty much picking between african cichlids for my 55, or some blue rams and other fish...? What other fish can be housed with the blue rams? If i remember correctly, i had one of these a few years back and he was pretty aggressive

pretty much any community fish can go with rams, honestly...rams are generally very mild-tempered, and will only chase (not to the death, usually) fish away when they are breeding...

I have a trio of Cockatoos (Apistogramma Cacatuoides) in with a pair of Rams and they seem to get along well. Although I have no true experience with live breeders, I did add some Guppies with them and they don't pay any attention to the adults (but chase and eat the fry). Also any tetras (or the like) should fare pretty well with Rams.

How many rams were you thinking about? you could have two pair and assuming a well set out tank have room for a pair/trio of apistos or similar dwarf.

As for other fish you should be able to safely have Bristlenose or similar, cory's would be fine if you wernt counting on keeping fry. Mid & Upper level most anything that doesnt get to big should be ok, angels would be fine but may get to be an issue if they tried breeding in the dwarfs territory. Livebeares would be great, free food for the dwarfs  (apistos are a natural predator of fry, which explains your problem nc). Otherwise tetra's, barbs etc even a community of female betta's basically anyone who doesnt use the bottom layer to much.
