The title says it all. This is a recent photo of my attempt at a Nature Aquarium style aquascape.

Later this year I will be tearing it all down to literally start from scratch; new substrate, new planting, new fish the lot. This is a very exciting prospect for me as it gives me the opportunity to put all I've learnt in the past three years since I bought this, my first ever tank, into practice.

If you like the look of this then please feel free to visit the planted forum where there is plenty of friendly experience and advice. The pinned threads are a good place to start if you intend taking the planted route and will answers most FAQs.

Regards
George

Beautiful.

What fish are you planning for the new set-up?
Thank you.

Good question. As I'm not enirely sure which direction I'm heading with the design I have yet to perform the exciting task of choosing appropiate fish. They will definitely be small though, consisting of large shoals of one, maybe two species. This will help create the illusion of a larger space, something that I'm a big fan of, as are many other aquascaping enthusiasts.

Otos and Amano shrimp will be stocked from the outset though to help combat an algae issues.

looks very nice , did you move the Java fern ?

How about some Scarlet Dario

Thank you. The Java fern has been moved plenty of times. You can see previous incarnations in my journal.

As I mentioned I'm not deciding on fish yet. I believe Danio are fast moving, very active fish that prefer lots of water movement - not really ideal for what I plan.

You always have the nicest planted tanks how many years experience do you have with them?
There should be a subforum called George's tanks.

George -- your planted tank is remarkable! Crystal clear, lush plants -- Elegant, very elegent.

Don't take it down, just start another one!!! :fun:

amazing george, well done

Why not go for a larger set up and go discus again?
:p

btw, you are planning selling those plants right?

Thank you everyone.

Whoops, I understand now. I Googled (not image though) "Scarlet Dario" and it came up with nothing fish related so I assumed it was a typo. Thanks for the link.

I've been in the fishkeeping hobby for three years, only two years properly planted. I've had just the one planted tank - a Juwel Rio 125. It has been a steep but wonderful learning curve.

My wife won't allow a larger tank - yet. For her this hobby just distracts me from the housework. A bigger tank would just be more distraction ;) .

Plants will be sent to a select few.

I hate to give any criticism for a tank as beautiful as this, but I will give what I have, thought it is truly a stunning tank.

Since you are looking for a natural look, I think your tank looks almost too carefully planted. Some of the smaller plants look like they're almost in rows. Maybe that's just me, or the camera perspective, but that's just how I see it.

I could only hope my plants will flourish like yours have! (and I think you should go discus in your next tank too ;) ) Again sorry for the criticism, I feel bad for even giving any about such a tank!

DarkSeraph I can't agree with your remarks it looks very natural to me.One of the best planted tanks I have ever seen wish mine was half as good as that. Maybe in 3-4 years with experience hopefully.

Fantastic tank.

But doesn't the wife understand that having and maintaining a beautiful tank is all part of the housework that contributes to a beautiful home? And if one tank makes a house look lovely, imagine what another tank would do? You ARE contributing to the housework! Besides, it's not like your tank is an eyesore. It's like a work of art or a beautiful decoration, and there should be multiple displays of such beauty in a house. At least this is the arguement that has always worked well with my mother. That arguement got me the 36g in the Florida room. It'll get me the extra tanks in my room, the tank in the office, and the nano reef in her room. :hey:

If not, flowers and chocolates, tried and true. Again, this works on my mother.
