ive found some of these locally and im getting them while they are young to grow out in my 200 litre. after doing research ive found contradicting indications of the size they grow to, between 5" and 10". does anyone have an idea as to what they grow from their own experience of keeping these lovely fish?

Hi their size is quite variable depending on genetic strain factors and also how they are raised and due to the fact they take 3-4 years to get fully grown (maybe more) their full size is dependant on the tanks they are kept in and the quality of food and number of water changes to flush the stunting hormone out the tank.

As for size though I think it is probably fair to say that the average male will make 8 inches and the average females make about 5-6 inches.

IMO 200 liters is too small for adults, as they are best kept in groups of 4 or more. But if you got some youngsters with a view to growing them on and then getting a bigger tank a 200 liter should be okay for some time - though still not ideal.

thanks will for ur knowledgeble advice. ive got a 5foot 500litre aswell but dont want to put them straight in because i feel they will struggle to get fed properly with the other greedy tankmates in there.
