I've just seen these in a shop near me, and fell in love with them. I want to get one, and have done a bit of looking into them, but can't find too much info other than they are peacful cichlids and they sift through the sand/fine gravel!!!!
If anyone has any info on them, I'd be very grateful.

Oh, one last thing. the ones they had were about 7inches, and were up for £32. Seems like a lot to me, but I've never seen them before, so have no comparison. If someone can let me know if this is a lot, tell me that too!!!!

geophagus jurupari. also called the eartheater, demon fish or horsefaced cichlid. south american fish. prefers ph of 6.3-7.0. eats worms, crustaceans and insects that it finds by digging into the muddy substrate. no color difference between males and females. average adult male size is about 10"

Is the Ph essential, as mine is around 7.5-7.8 most of the time???
Also, what are they like in general. are they active during the day or night??

Thanks

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm gonna go down there at the weekend and see if I can get one a little cheaper. it seems like a little too much for them, but they are stunning fish though!!! :D
I'll post some pics as soon as I get him/her (if I do anyway!!)

Well, I couldn't resist, so I got him yesterday, and he's doing fine. He's a bit shy at the moment, and hides when I go into the room, but he's starting to come out a bit already. I've taken some pretty good pictures of him, and you can see them here!

glad to hear that things are going well.

would like to make a suggestion. study the fish and their habits. do a profile with pictures for the forum. your experiences may help future fishkeepers. would be a great asset to the forum.
