Geo Suri Gone Mad

well over the last few days ive notcied my male Surinam Geo go somewhat mad, its constantly attacking the female which has been hidding in the top right corner of the tank, its also attacking the two kissing gourami's on and off despite them being a tadge bigger than him. the only thing he hasnt gone for is the new senegal bichir which is tiny and the bistlenose plec.

i didn't want to see the female get beaten bad so i've chopped my old condensation tray up and put it in as a divider leaving the male geo with the plec and the rest in the other part of the tank. The male is still trying to get at them through the divider although its pretty well jammed in so it wont be able to get through. I have two filters and theres a gap at the top for the water to cirulate between both halfs.

Is it that the individual fish is just aggresive or should i up the amount of females ? For this the gourami's would need to go
the fish have been together since like Jan with no issues.

Help please...

Are you sure the female hasnt laid eggs and the male is protecting them? Because it sounds like protection behaviour.

from what i was reading they keep the Egg's in their mouth?

its the female thats getting attacked the worst , surely if she had eggs he would be keeping things away from her? never had breeding geo's before but when my angels bred the pair were never attacking each other just everything else.

Ahh yeah sorry mouth brooders , in which case, he is probably trying to get her to pair up with him and she isnt interested.

should i get a few more females? or get rid of the male? I'm not after them breeding just want them to get along. Is it likely he'll settle after a couple of days in isolation then be ok when i release him?

What size tank are they in?

48*15*12 its fairly well planted now the line of site is blocked. as theyre only 2-3 inches they have loads of hiding places too

You could try to remove him from the tank for a day (providing you have somewhere to put him), re-arrange again, then re-introduce him to the tank and see if it makes a difference, they arent normally aggressive fish IME, so something is either wrong in the tank (how are you stats?) which he doesnt like or he just really doesnt like her or he does and she doesnt like him (if you get my drift )

Hmm i thought he'd be in a mood at me not the other fish because i changed the sand the other day as it was looking a bit dirty , doing this got rid of his hole he's been digging . It took him like 20minutes to make another one uprooting my plants again

The shop i got him from had like a massive display tank ith a load of fish in including a fully grown suri(it was beautiful!) and it was with like cory cats and it didn't bother them. The only other tank i have is my old 50-60litre one but that has gravel in and some other fish that i dont want to stress.

The waters stats are fine , maybe it is they dont like each other , i've had them for a wile so thought it would get aggresive before now. i'll leave the divider up for now and see how it go's in a few days after it's cooled off if it carries on i'll have to give it away

Hmm i came home this morning and noticed the one that is getting picked on had squeezed through the tank divider i made up to the side with the one that was attacking it , the other geo is still attacking it, although it didnt take long for it to squeeze back to the other side. wierd.

just an update i re-released the male to the full tank and it seems ok , nudges the other one but nothing like attacking it like it was. Well chuffed.
