Bought this little fella yesterday. He's only around 2 or so inches so a juvie.

Can someone confirm which type he is? I have a good idea but would like a second opinion. LFS only just had them in so didnt label them up etc, I knew he is a Geo of some sort, but not sure 100% what type.

Yeh to young to tell, good price for a Surinamensis if that is what it is,normally they are about £10 for a 1" fish.

The face definitely looks like a Surinam but the fins make me think otherwise, unless they don't get their stripes until later.

They had around 7 or 8 of them in. 1 will do me for now.

Just keep in mind these guys are a shoaling species...grab em while they are cheap!

good price think i paid around £6 for mine . Gernerally the male has more finage. Really noticeable with the male/female i have.

IME alot of shops say they have surinamensis but actually have copy cats such as mine the megasema if you google the two you can't see a difference.

From that website at the moment mine looks most like the G. sp. cf. brachybranchus below...although its only a juvie so may change...

Are they definately shoalers? At the moment it's in with some other cichlids (FM's and Blue Acara's) so hopefully they will keep him company for now. He has settled in well, is all over the tank and has already claimed a small cave. Colours have intensified slightly too...
