Hi all! My betta has been doing really well lately which means he's hungry 24/7! He loves blood worms and that's the base of his diet along with some small betta buffet pellets he likes! And he likes the munch of freeze dried small shrimp as a treat. I've heard so many different things about how many times to feed and how much. I've heard only twice a day to a couple times. And If I put his whole bottle of blood worms in the tank, he would eat it all in the span of 5 minutes! What is the recommended serving amount?

Just do a couple blood worms once a day. Ignore the packaging that says how much he eats in a span of 2 minutes. More like 30 seconds. :) overfeeding can cause many different issues. Dont worry that he is starving and just feed once a day ;)

I feed my betta every other day, under feeding is better than overfeeding. Overfeeding can cause bloated belly. Feed him only 2 bloodworms per day.

Blood worms are not very nutritious and contain a lot of fat. They should really only be fed once a week as a treat. Think of them as burgers, we shouldn't eat them every day. A better type of food is pellets made for bettas. My betta is fed Northfin betta pellets and he gets 4 pellets at lunchtime and 4 pellets in the evening.

If you use freeze dried food, you need to rehydrate it in a bit of tank water before putting it in the tank. If freeze dried food is eaten quickly it can absorb water inside the fish and swell up which is not good for the fish.

Bettas are gluttons. They will beg for food whenever they see you. You must resist the temptation to give in to his begging :)

I only feed my betta 2 bloodworms per week. Reasons why: 1( They are expensive. And 2( They are very fatty.

I also only feed my betta 4 pellets per day. If I feed him any more than that, he will get bloated. Many people say that doing the “Feed your fish whatever they can eat in 2 minutes” trick works. It doesn’t. You will extremely over feed your betta.

My betta is picky about food and I really haven't found any type of pellets he likes. He rarely eats the ones I feed him now. Is there any way I can encourage him to at least try them!

Fast him for three days and then try again. Hes probably used to the bloodworm treats and the others aren't as appealing lol

Just continue trying to feed him pellets instead of bloodworms. Over time, he will recognize that pellets is food.

Finding the right diet for my betta took time and now only feed it twice a day. Earlier it was in excess and caused problems for the betta.
