I have been reading up on sexing them, but am still unsure.
The ram does seem to have an ovipositor, but when I picked it up in the fish
store it seemed to have a territory going and defended it against another ram.

thanks for your help.

- I'm getting another female from a different store when I get the 20g going

Thanks for the reply. Thats 2 votes I have got for female- 0 for male.
It isn't very colorful right now I guess because (he/she) is still young.

IMO i would say male...extension on the dorsal and tail fins and teh anal fins is pointed. female wouldnt have that and the anal fin will be rounded

Thats what I think also, but i guess I'll have to go by just trying to find a female and seeing if they pair.
He/she doesn't seem to defend any territory, is this odd?
-still difficult to tell by the colors, as he/she hasn't brightened up yet

My male has longer filaments than that (by a mile). My female looks just like that, and like yours doesn't show her colours as much as the male. :) I'll see if I can get pics later.

to me its a female also, going by the very noticeable ovipositor

Do males just not have an ovipositor, or do they have pointed ones?

- would there be a behavior difference in m and f? He/she isn't an aggressive feeder or very territorial, but the fins are always pretty erect like in the pics.

-he/she has colored up more, but still a little pale

- have you heard of sexing bolivians by a yellow belly? I'm not sure if this is true (yellow being male) ?

The ovipositor of a female looks like a small tube. The males is not as obvious and they are pointed. So I was told :/ I could be wrong but thats what I read somewhere on the net, don't ask me were :fun:

thanks for the help. Apologies for anyone that I doubted.

I know its a female now b/c u guys and am getting pretty good at sexing them in the lfs now.
