Fish Crazy
I am sure this has been talked about ...cant seem to find a clear answer here.
I just bought a 72 gallon bow front tank for a whole nice price of $75 bucks. The downfall is that is needs to be resealed....
with that said.... I need to reseal. As some know there is a lot of area to seal here. I looked at some prices for the actual "safe for aquariums" stuff and not only is the stuff in squeeze tubes, but are only 2 oz at the same price of the GE 1.... I know not to have that anti fungal stuff and all that... just like some insight on if others have used this for their tanks and had a good run with it.
Another question is do I have to make sure ALL the old sealant is off? I got a majority of it off... but there is still spots here and there... though very small.... you can feel it with your finger when you run it along the seams. I am keeping the stuff in between the glass for the most part in tact... though I may have gotten into the seam on the front a bit more than I would have liked to because of the curved glass.
So with that said, even rubbing alcohol seems not to get it "all" off. I have ran it around at least 6 times now. Should I leave well enough alone?
One other idea I thought of is using one of those green scratch pads to rub the rest off. We use that at work.... in which we process food, and due to that we need something that would not gouge and make scratches into the metal due to the bacteria issues, I thought I could try that too and see if I can get the rest off.... I hear that fine sandpaper would work also, but if I can avoid scratches I should do that....
Alright enough questions for now... I am sure others will pop up and Ill ask when they do. I thought that tank was a heck of a steal for that price with pump... I am going to make sure I get this done right the first time.
Side note, seems like they once tried to reseal, for there is clear hard crap spots all over the tank and some spots under the black sealant... I could have sworn that the guy I got it from told me that the black stuff was the stuff used for car windows... I think that might be why it leaked and why fish died on them...
