Help please,

I have a 3 inch 3 year old Clown loach. He has started breating very quickly and gasoing with his mouth open. I have another clown the same size and age and he is fine. All levels seem to be fine and no other fish seem stressed. Water temp has risen to 30 in hot weather but this has never been a problem before with all fish surviving a 37 degree hike when Thermo went haywire which resulted in 50% water change to get temp back down fast!

Any ideas. Have isolated Clown into cooler water (RO in Bowl) and added aquirium Salt.

Right increase aeration in the tank, and look out for grains of salt on the clown loach, clown loaches are very prone to whiteespot when they get stressed.

Also size of tank in gallons or litres would be good, how many fish and which type, plus water stats as clown loaches are very sensitive to water quality so need ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.

Get rid of the salt - it's not good for loaches.

Puffers shouldn't be kept with any of the fish you've got, the tank's somewhat over-stocked and clown laoches should be in groups. These kinds of things can cause stress and make fish mroe susceptible to disease.

Higher temps. lead to lower cocnentrations of oxygen. Increasing aeration, lowering temp. might help. However, it may also be that your, possibly already stressed, loach has suffered from shock as a result of the temperature fluctuating particularly rapidly. I couldn't say if that's the case though as I wasn't exactly watching the thermometer while this was happening :p

What I find suspicious is your 0 reading for allw ater parameters - do you eman ammonia, ntirite and nitrate? If so, is this the hospital/isolation tank and therefore uncycled? If so, you may be better off doing a large water change on your main tank to lwoer the temp. and then returning your loach to that tank 9which is hopefuly cycled). Do post your water parameters int hat tank as well.

Hi,

Just did levels and they read

My test reading form my all purpose kit read.

PH 8. (tap water is 8.2 here)
Ammonia Nil
Nitrate 50
Nitrite 0.1

The puffers are pigmy and grow no bigger than 1/2 inch. Had them 3 months and they seem fine.
