I am currently trying to cut down the electricity bill caused by the fish-house. I am now looking at gas heaters as gas seems a lot cheaper than electricity. firstly, does anyone know of any fummes that could be given off into the air that could harm fish  also, the room is about 10'x10' so is not large and I would not need a huge unit. i'm just looking for anyones comments or suggestions. I have looked at these type of heaters.

but as you get a jet of hot air comming out these are not practicle as it would be a possable fire hazard not to mention the possable overheating of certain tanks.

basicaly, does anyone have any ideas on how to heat a fish-house using gas and if anyone had any suggestions on heaters, that would be great.

thanks in advance

yeh, as long as the gas heater dosn't send out a jet of hot air but instead, distributes it evenly it will be ok. some models say that there are no fumes given off and have an 100%effeciency rating :shifty: ? if that makes sense. -_- the fumes would come out where the heat comes out I would think.

well i think there all gonna give off a little fumes, if they didnt it would be like a brand new discovbry and we would have no pollution :D but i guess if it doesnt give out to much fumes it would be ok. if it over heats certain tanks, u could probaly just put on some really weak chiller or maybe a fan

You wouldnt want to use a Salamander (laymans term for the heaters you posted) Even the good ones give off a ton of fumes no matter what they claim.
Maybe a wall mounted gas heater, like one from this website would be the ticket for you. http://www.mtdmowers.com/gas_heaters_for_less.htm

You can get fans and stuff for them to help circulate the air, and they are pretty cost effective.

Do you have a gas supply you can run out to the FH, or are you dependent on bottled gas? If you can get a Natural Gas line out there, get a balanced flue, "through the wall" heater, a Baxi Brasilia or similar. Very economical. British Gas sell loads of different models of all sizes, (I know - I used to work for them!). I had a Drugasar HeatWave myself, flue straight through the wall, no fumes/smells/anything except heat.

I don't think anything is 100% efficient.

I don't think anything is 100% efficient.

thats what I thought, isn't that phisicaly impossable -_- . I will have a look at them. they sound just what i'm looking for and I can get a pipe run to the fish-house or use bottled gas. whats the problem with bottled gas? this would be easyer but the house has a gas supply so I ould get someone to extend it to the fishouse.

thanks

It is not a case of bottled gas being bad, it is a case of removing the combustion products from the interior environment.

ahh ok, so I can use either bottled or gas from the house as long as I have a flue fitted as well?

thanks

ste :)

STe, look at greenhouse heaters. They are still reaonably priced, are ventless and have the added luxury of being able to run with a thermostat. They are designed for exactly the kind of use you need.
