Eeeee! Uber excited! :hyper:
So tonite i went looking though other ppls trash (ahhh its not as bad as it sounds – let me explain) my city has this junk collection program where in the summer people can put items that they no longer need on the curb in front of their house and the city will come by and pick it up for you. Well the pick up day for each area is sat morn, but ppls start putting stuff out much sooner so that other ppls can drive round and pick up stuff that they could use.

So tonite i went looking for interesting stuff (last yr i got some wicked finds) and i found (among other things) some 1 gal + glass jars!!! plus a whole bunch of other jars (which i stupidly didnt pick up and that im heading back for tomorrow as i think they would be awesome if i ever decide to breed my bettas).

Im wondering what they best way to clean them is. I was thinking of soaking them in a bleach water mix, rinsing them then baking them in the sun for a couple days to evaporate the bleach – would this work? Is there a better way to clean em? One of them is pretty stinky (it was obviously used for garlic pickles).
Any suggestions would be terrific.

tha'ts how i usually clean out all my stuff, using the lbeach water mix and letting them bake outside in the sun. And then i rinse and rinse and rinse until i'm SURE there's no more bleach left  haven't had a fish die from it yet so i must be doing something right :D

btw, congrats on teh finds :) i wsih our city had something like that, sure would hlep out with all the trash -_-

sweet - sounds like im on the right track with the bleach method B)
thankfuly i dont think i'll need to use any salt as there isnt any caked on junk, phew, but i'll keep that in mind for the future.

thanks cutecotton - its pretty awesome that my city does it plus it helps loads when ive gotta find stuff for my house at school.

bleach apparently isnt harmfull if you cant smell it.. so once your done cleaning them etc, just smell em and see (just to be safe )

interesting nibbles- makes sense. ive also heard that you will see white stuff if there is any bleach left over.
im gonna have to get someone else to do a second opinion on the sniffing as i seem to have a chronic stuffy nose that isnt so great at smelling these days. :/
thanks for the info :)
