I've gotten muddled up... is it 1 gallon per inch of fish or 1 litre per inch of fish? Trying to decide whether or not to get more neons for my 3 foot tank and have forgotten the measurement to calculate!

One inch per gallon, or 1cm per two litres.

And be prepared for all the epople who are going to tell you that guideline is useless! Personally, I think it's very useful, especially when you're talking about small shoalers, like neons :good:

Thanks, I went all brain dead there for a bit!

I'm not looking to fully stock my tank, just want to know where I stand. I want to always leave room for new comers (since I have 4 female guppies in there and fry will come and go frequently).

Awesome. I just googled fish per gallon calculator and came up with this. http://www.howmanyfish.com/ Great for those of us who are mathematically disabled....
