Stopped by the Walmart Supercenter 1 town over cause they have an aquarium section with the fish and what not. I was horrified to see about 30 Glowlight Tetra in the same tank as about 10 Serpae. Every single Glowlight had shredded fins.

They had a sign up over the sink saying how the Clown Loach was the fish of the month. Had care and habitat descriptions, said how they prefer to be in large communities. They had ONE left. Swimming around all by himself with 4 or 5 baby plecos.

I'm not sure why they even bother trying to sell fish. I'd never buy a fish from there.

There are no walmarts in NYC and none in NY state that sell fish to the best of my knowledge. I remember growing up in florida getting my fish from walmart and now all i hear is horror stories about walmart's fish selection. Unfortunately what can be done?

If I get time today I plan on at least calling them and telling them to seperate the Serpae from other fish populations.

not all wal-marts are bad at selling fish. many lack the staff that know anything about the fish.

there are a couple of states that have very good wal-marts...my state not included.

my tiger barbs and cherry barbs are from wal-mart and have been doing great

They do it because many many people aren't going to be that discerning about their fish. So long as the profit margin on the fish is as good or better than something else they could put in there they'll sell them.

Most fish stores in Florida sell quality fish mostly due to short delivery times with so many fish farms here in FL. I still prefer the mom and pop LFS's... Too many dummies working at petco's etc....

The walmarts in my town aren't great either in terms of their fish care. I know that a lot of people I've talked to from other areas say their walmarts quit stocking fish alltogether.

It's been a while since I've seen a Wal-Mart with more in its pets section than dog food. The last Wal-Mart I saw with fish was down by the beach, they had about a dozen tanks and some bettas and that was it.

They have fish in the one closest to me but what can you expect from a large discount department store? If I want a cheap decoration or something I might go in there, but for livestock, where it matters if you know what you're doing, it will be someone else who sells me fish. I even mail order rather than deal there.

holy ####alky mushrooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
walmart

Walmart: all of our products are made in china! so come to walmart today!

Woo go Florida!

I try to avoid going to walmart at any cost and if I find myself there, I steer clear of the fish section. Why go and look at something you know will make you upset?

Last time I was there, though, I did succumb to looking at the fish and they had loads of baby senegalus bichirs... I was so tempted to bring them home!

The walmart near my house always have fish with ich.
Depresses an angers the heck out of me.
