I recently used Argos play sand in my tank as recommended by a few people, I'd seen pictures and it looked really good, and for the price I thought I couldn't go wrong.

I bought 2 bags to do my aqua one regency 100, opened the first bag and I was really gutted, it was a horrible dark brown colour! looked like mud! I thought maybe it would clean up nicer but no, it stayed really dark and looked horrible in my tank.

But I thought I'd persevere with it as I couldn't really afford the real aquarium stuff after just getting the new tank

One bag wasn't enough so I opened up the other bag and what a difference! lovely light coloured sand, the colour I expected the first bag to be like.

after much debating on weather I should risk buying another bag to try and match the colour I just decided to place the lighter colour on top of the darker colour and hope for the best lol

Here are some pics, poor quality as using my camera phone with poor lighting

So just be careful when deciding on Argos play sand as you wont know what colour you'll be getting....

As you can see the end result looks great but I'm worried about the darker colour showing thru once the fish are in and during cleaning

Hope the photos work, first time uploading pics on here :)

You should have just returned the darker stuff, i would imagine it is very rare for this to happen.

Returned it for what reason tho? They would not have exchanged it due to me not liking the colour, at the end of the day play sand is play sand and that's what I got regardless of colour.

there would be no guarantee that I would get the lighter colour again anyway, and they certainly wouldn't allow me to open the bags and check before I buy them.

This was just a heads up to warn of the possibility of getting different coloured sand, it was the first time id used it and I got stung so thought I'd warn others :)

I would of bought another bag (hoping it was the lighter colour) and mix all 3 together to thin the dark out. Then take some out if its to much to use as spare.

i had this too, one bag was darker, i just mixed it all together and its fine
