I'm doing a water change and have my lid open and while opening a door to my garden to dump the pail of water, a moth flew into the house.

The moth is immediatly attracted to the light on the tank and flies right towards it, hits it and lands in the water.

One of my Golden Wonder Killi's patrolling the surface (as he normally does) grabs him much like a game fish hitting a surface bait. With the wings hanging out of his mouth, the other GW Killi, rushes toward him to see if he can get some. Killi no. 1 swims away into the corner (as if to say it's all mine) and quickly gulps the rest of the moth in.

He was quite happy looking.

It made perfect sense to me, since they are surface fish, they probably eat insects all the time in the wild. So since then I caught a couple flys and other small incects and tossed them in (not all at once, one a day). It's amazing how fast and with so much ferocity those Killi's hit the insect.

I wonderd if anybody else has done this, and do you think it's safe? I am wondering about the possibilty of the insects having a disease or parasite?

fly tend to carry may different dieses, so i woundnt feed my fish and flys

Flies are a natural source of food for the likes of Killifish. They have upturned mouths which dictates how they feed. I feed my killifish fruitfly (along with other livefoods)
Midge larvae from butts under trees in the garden, I even take a large coffee jar of water and wiggle the rose heads into it in summer and feed the greenfly.
Daddylonglegs, bluebottles, houseflies etc, etc, etc they all come in handy.

We always get house moths in the fall and spring, and they tend to suicide into the tank when they're about.

My platies did not seem to mind, especially the big female.

I wouldn't worry about them.

HA, if I had a moth flying around in my house for longer than 2 seconds I'd be impressed. As soon as my cat sees an insect of any kind, it's gone. Runaway crickets, house flies, birds out the window (>.<) and moths especially. My cat makes the good 6.5' jump to the top of the lamp stand we have to get the buggers. I have been handling crickets near my open tank when one vaulted off and landed into the exodon abyss. Probably the worst death you'd imagine, since exodons aren't particularly fond of swallowing food whole like other insectivores! =\
